Challenge
The Directors of the Bank’s operational arm asked Artesian to support a major programme of transformational change to its 2,000 staff. Artesian’s specific remit was to address cultural issues in an organisation characterised by competing goals, inconsistent priorities and a style of leading-by-doing.
Programme
We began with the top team, engaging the 12 directors in a series of seven single-day workshops addressing the key cultural issues, such as building trust, working as team, and inspirational leadership. We followed these workshops with a 1:1 coaching programme for individual directors, then rolling it out to the next tier of the organisation with 22 behavioural workshops, for the Divisional Teams and their Heads of Division.
Results
Results have been encouraging. The bank has faced the recent financial crisis with tremendous resolve and has built a strong platform for growth. The top team once characterised by silo behaviours is now fully engaged and working as a team in the face of difficulty. There is increased clarity and trust, and the work has also highlighted new challenges, particularly the need to work together across directorates.
